Tawang is located at the eastern Himalayan ranges. It is famous for its 400 year old Buddhist monastery which overlooks the wide Tawang Valley,and best time to visit Tawang is between the months of June and October. Other attractive places near to Tawang are Tawang Monastery, Sela Top Pass valleys. There are several hotels and tourists lodge around Tawang. The taste of the Tibetan food available here will always remain in your tongue.

The nearest airport to Tawang is Tezpur in Assam ther are also helicopter services between Tawang and Tezpur. the nearest railway station is in Rangapara in Assam. Tawang is a beautiful place not to be missed especially the Buddhist monastery which is the largest in the country.

National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in Arunachal

Arunachal Pradesh- The land of the rising sun is blessed with the maximum natural beauty any land can possess in this planet. This is a state which has one among the largest number of Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks in the country. The list of the Sanctuaries and Nation Parks are endless. The wildlife population in this whole area is rare and valuable. It is the home to several rare and endangered species of flora and fauna. The endangered species include, mishmi, takin, hoolock gibbon, musk deer, bharal, hisbid hare, flying squirrel, elephant, tiger, gaur, barking deer, black bear, red panda only to name a few. The area also shelter approximately more than 500 species of birds.

The nearest airport is in Lilabari, Assam and the state doesn’t have a railway station hence the nearest railway station is Lumding railway station. There are several hotels and resorts in Arunachal Pradesh.

Bomdila – for the adventurous

If you are going for a visit to Arunachal Pradesh, then do not forget to visit Bomdila. The place is mostly inhabited by the people of Sherdukpen and Monpa tribes. It is the district capital of West Kameng district in Arunachal. It is a small hill station but has several sightseeing places. Like all other mountain / hill stations, this little town also has great trekking and hiking possibilities (especially in the Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary). There are craft centres in Bomdila from where you can buy some souvenirs for your friends and families. Other places of attractions include district museum, Buddhist temples, and a sports complex.

April, May, June, July, August, September and October are considered to be the ideal months to travel to Bomdila. There are no airports or railway stations in this place. The best place to travel to this cosy town is from Tejpur in Assam. Take a bus or hire a car to reach here.

Shopping in Itanagar

Itanagar is the best place to shop in the whole of Arunachal Pradesh or even North East India. Tourists travelling to distant exotic places like North Eastern part of India will usually like to keep souvenir from these places. Itanagar is the last word for such a pit stop. Since half of Arunachal Pradesh is filled with thick forest, availability of wood and bamboo are immense. It is hard to resist the temptation of buying beautiful traditional handicrafts of Arunachal Pradesh made of wood, bamboo, wool and metal. Cups, baskets, dishes etc. made of Monpa woods and bamboos are irresistible. There are also metal ornaments and woollen cloths and ties with traditional designs.

We won’t be able to see shopping malls except for roadside stalls in Itanagar, but you can fill your shopping bags if you are willing to bargain. The nearest airport is Tezpur in Assam. A cab or bus drive from there is ideal. Harmoti in Assam is the nearest railway station. There are plenty of accommodation facilities in this capital city.

Arunachal Pradesh is in the easternmost part of the country. The first ray of the rising sun touches Arunachal Pradesh first; hence it is called the ‘land of the dawn’. Arunachal Pradesh has a number of Mountains, valleys, rivers and forests. There is 61,000 Sq km of thick forest ranges in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is a beautiful place filled with natural beauty in every nook and corner.

Itanagar is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh and one of the most popular cities in the North Eastern part of India. In terms of tourist attraction the capital city offers a package of sight seeing places like Polo Park, Buddhist temple, Ganga Sekhi Lake, Tawang Monastery, Malinithan- old granite images of Hindu deities, Parshuram Kund- which is a lake and a famous Hindu pilgrimage centre, the Namdhapa National Park (Tiger Project), Bomdila etc.

Defence Ministry plans to set up IAF base in Arunachal

Arunachal Pradesh, one of the seven sisters of the Northeast, is set to get eight defence airports. According to Arunachal West MP Takam Sanjoy, he has urged Ministry of Defence to set up a base station for Indian Air Force in the state. He has also advocated the Ministry to invest in the mule tracks in Arunachal along the Indo-Chinese border.

MP Takam told the journalists that Mr. A. K. Anthony, Defence Minister of India, has promised him that the Ministry would set up eight airbases and deploy two more infantry division in the state. Earlier this month, the Government of Arunachal has handed over eight advanced landing grounds to the Defence Ministry.

The State Government has informed the Centre that the Chinese Government has undertaken massive development work along the border. India should also think along the line and deploy additional forces in the area to maintain stability.

Mayudia – A hill resort

Bhishmaknagar Fort, Roing

Roing district in Arunachal Pradesh is known for the historical fort of Bhishmaknagar named after the king Bhismaka. The fort is located at the foot of the mountains between the Dikrong and the Dibang rivers. The Bhishmaknagar Fort which was first excavated in 1996-97, evidences of the Aryan culture in the 4th century A.D.

The fort built with clay bricks and embellished with pottery has an elongated semi circle shape extending over an area of about 10 sq. km.

Bomdila, a Tourists Paradise

Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh is a mini paradise, it is about 100-km From Bhalukpong, Arunachal Pradesh. It is famous for a variety of Apple orchards , Craft Centre, very fine carpets and masks. And also the place is popular for trekking and hiking and provides an ideal getway during summer.

Must visit places in Bomdila include the Buddhist Monasteries called ‘Gompas’, which show a strong influence of Tibetan and Buddhist culture.

Orchidarium at Tipi

Arunachal Pradesh has the largest range of orchids in India. There is an Orchidarium at Tipi near the banks of the Bharali River in the West Kameng District, west of Tawang district.

It consists around 7000 or more varieties of orchids which grow abundantly in different parts of Arunachal Pradesh. In the Orchid research centre, scientists create new hybrid varieties of orchids using the latest techniques of biotechnology.

The place is also ideal for rafting, fishing and angling in river Kameng.
